Animal Testing for Cosmetics

My response to the Campaign against the use of

Animal Testing for Cosmetics

November 2021

Thank you for contacting me about animal testing and cosmetics.

There has been no change in legislation and that the ban on using animals for testing of finished cosmetic products remains in force.

Under UK regulations to protect the environment and safety of workers, animal testing can be permitted, where required by UK regulators, on single or multiuse ingredients. However, such testing can only be conducted where there are no non-animal alternatives.

We can be proud that the UK was the first country in the world to implement laws protecting animals.

I have a strong record of interest in the protection of animal rights and was the second MP and first Conservative MP to sign the EDM for mandatory CCTV installation in slaughterhouses.

I share the Conservatives' commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare and hope that you do too.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact me on this important subject.
