Fur Free Britain

My response to the Campaign regarding the use of fur in fashion and its impact on animal welfare.

February 2023

Thank you for raising your concerns about the use of fur in fashion and its impact on animal welfare.

The UK has some of the highest animal welfare standards in the world, and I support the efforts to ensure that animals are treated humanely.

The UK banned fur farming in 2003, and I am pleased to see that the majority of UK retailers have stopped selling real fur. The UK government is also committed to ensuring that all fur sold in the UK is labelled correctly so that consumers can make an informed choice.

I appreciate that there is considerable support for banning all imports of fur products.

Ministers have been reviewing the evidence gathered both from the call for evidence and broader engagement with the industry.

I understand that the Government will be publishing a summary of responses in due course, which I look forward to reading.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
