Missing Migrant Children
My response to concerns for the safety and wellbeing of migrant children

February 2023

Thank you for your email about the missing migrant children.

I share the concerns of many of my constituents about the safety of the missing migrant children, and the welfare of children currently in the care of local councils and the Home Office.

As such, I have contacted the Home Secretary seeking her assurances that the government takes these abductions seriously, and are committed to putting in place additional measures to safeguard children that are currently being housed.

We know the UK has a proud record of providing support to those in need of protection; our resettlement programmes have provided safe and legal routes to better futures for hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe. Since 2015, over 185,000 adults and children seeking refuge have been offered a place in this country.

Asylum reforms and legal changes through the Nationality and Borders Act, will deter unsafe illegal entry into the UK at which point children are put most at risk. It is right that we take action.

I hope better lives will be experienced by growing numbers at home and abroad.

Thank you again for your email.

I wish you well.
