Retained EU Law Bill
My response to the emails regarding the revocation and reform of EU Laws into British Law
May 2023
Thank you for your email about the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill.
The government has scaled back its plans for EU-era laws to expire automatically at the end of the year.
Many colleagues rightfully voiced concern that such a move would lead to important legislation being lost in the large-scale clean-up by accident. Given that the EU-era legislation is particularly large when it comes to environmental regulation, I welcome this decision wholeheartedly.
Whilst this change of course meets and resolves many of the criticisms and concerns voiced, I will consider any and all possible amendments relating to environmental matters.
I recently spoke in the House on this matter, which you can view below for a further articulated view.
I will watch this Bill’s progression closely.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
I wish you well.
Sir Peter Bottomley MP
