Sir Peter litter-picking with Councillor Richard Nowak in Salvington

Back for its ninth year, the Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.

Last year, #LitterHeroes from across Worthing, Arun and the UK pledged to pick more than 400,000 bags of litter. This year, we're pledging even more than ever before.

Litter picking makes an immediate and visible difference to the environment where we live, work and play.

Engaging community members in litter picking, young and old, can help to develop a stronger connection with our green spaces. Wider teaching and activities in schools can help to educate future generations to better care for our environment and call out those who do not.

I was pleased to be out with Councillor Richard Nowak in Salvington, litter picking and listening to residents about how we can better care for our open spaces and parks. Lack of care and investment by our council can be tackled with community involvement and voluntary work, but goodwill should not be solely relied upon.

I join with Cllr Nowak in calling on the Council to better invest in our local parks to improve accessibility with wider paths and increase amenities and facilities including play area equipment, benches and bins.
